Glenn Shafer
Glenn Shafer is based at Rutgers University (Rutgers Business School - Newark and New Brunswick), and also is a part-time member of Computer Learning Research Centre, Department of Computer Science, Royal Holloway, University of London. He is well known for his contribution to Dempster-Shafer theory and has also contributed to game-theoretic probability and conformal prediction. He has written extensively on the history and philosophy of probability and statistics and is now active on the editorial board of the open-access Electronic Journal for History of Probability and Statistics.
- Spent his childhood on a farm near Caney, Kansas.
- 1968: A.B. in mathematics from Princeton University.
- 1968 - 1969: Peace Corps, Afghanistan. High school geometry teacher.
- 1973: Ph.D. from Princeton University. Dissertation: "Allocations of Probability: A Theory of Partial Belief" (Mathematics Subject Classification: 62—Statistics). Advisor: Geoffrey Watson.
- 1976: returned to Kansas to teach in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Kansas (after teaching in the Department of Statistics at Princeton).
- 1984: moved from Mathematics to Business at Kansas.
- 1992: started teaching in the Rutgers Business School – Newark and New Brunswick.
